Sundar Pichai didn’t have a computer growing up. Now he’s CEO of Alphabet and Google

On Tuesday, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin made an announcement over the appointment of Sundar Pichai as CEO of parent company Alphabet in addition to his role as CEO of Google.

In an interview for CNN earlier this year, it was surprising when Pichai said he had no computer during his childhood days and had little access to phone. He believes that living condition is what made him realise the potential of technology.

Pichai had been running Alphabet INC for several years but now the total executive control is handed over to him. Page and Brin will still be continuing their roles as co-founders, board members and shareholders.

Alphabet is an American multinational conglomerate, started four years ago and serves as GOOGLE’s parent company. It is the world’s fifth largest company by revenue and one of the world’s most valuable companies. Despite being given huge responsibilities in leading google and now managing Alphabet, Sundar seems excited about dealing the new challenges and achieving Alphabet’s objectives.

He had expressed his gratitude to Larry and Brin on his twitter page upon appointment. He now becomes undeniably one of the most powerful people in Silicon Valley.
