Malaysian mixed doubles pair, Chan Peng Soon - Goh Liu Ying became the first Malaysia’s badminton representative to reach the final stage of badminton event at the Rio Olympics this time. The win not only ensures a silver medal in their grasp, but also puts hunting on Malaysia's first gold at the Olympics.

This duo ranked 11th in the world shocked the  6th  seed mixed doubles couples of China, Xu Chen-Ma Jin in straight sets 21-12, 21-19  in the semifinals held at Pavilion 4, Riocentro, Brazil.  Advancing to the final are most historic moment for the mixed doubles category, because have never reached the finals or won a medal since the badminton competition held at the 1992 Barcelona Games.

"The understanding between us rose above the ring and having a pair of China is not an easy task."But the mental strength that determines the win and we will do our best in the final," said Peng Soon after their match. Peng Soon - Liu Ying will meet Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad - Liliyanas Natsir as determining the first gold medal in badminton for Malaysia.

Meanwhile , Malaysia’s Men Doubles entered semi final after defending Korea’s Lee Young Dae - Yoo Yeon Seong 21-17,18-21,21-19. They will meet pair from China, Chai Biao - Hong Wei today at 2010 hours Malaysian time.
